It’s the Moooost Wonderful Time of the Year

Merry Christmas everyone. I know, I know. The Grinch is wishing you a Merry Christmas. But seriously the busiest shopping day of the year is today and as a retail employee I just want to remind you of a few things. After all, It’s the moooost wonderful time of the year!

  1. Shop Small. There are so many small businesses that are struggling this year due to covid-19. I know you’re probably aware that we are still in the middle of a pandemic, probably. Things may be opening back up where you live? Or they might be totally shut dow. If possible, support your small mom & pops. A lot of small businesses have adapted to the new normal and are offering free shipping, or have just started shipping in general.
  2. Be kind. I mean, I think you should always be kind, but especially during the holiday season. This is the busiest time of year for most service industries. 30A is a little different typically, with season being in summer but this year might be the year that changes. Most workers are just trying their best. I’m talking everyone from the person checking you out at the grocery store, to the server at the restauaruant, barista making your coffee to your sales person at your favorite small boutique. (See #1.)
  3. Ship your gifts early. My whole family is across the entire US in Washington state. Barry’s are in Idaho/Utah/Washington. I have to consider shipping times when evaluating my timeline for Christmas shopping. There’s nothing worse than shipping your packages with what you think is plenty of time only for them to arrive a day or two after Christmas. Serious bummer.
  4. Be Personal. This one is super specific. Growing up, I was never able to find my name on anything. I wanted nothing more than a personalized license plate for my bike, a keychain from our vacation destination, or coffee mug. Now, with so many easy to find customizable products, make it personal! Etsy has a plethora of options, and then, again, you’re supporting small businesses!

I’m definitely not an expert on having the most holiday cheer this time of year. Retail, and the Chipmunks Christmas album on repeat for years would do it to anyone but I feel like this year I might be turning a corner. Do you have any tips for the holidays this year?? How are you celebrating? It’s the moooost wonderful time of the year, share it in the comments.
