I think I’ve talked before about being more mindful with my spending, my wardrobe, etc. Trust that I love nice things as much as the next girl. I also love to wander aimlessly around Target and fill up my cart with things I ‘need’ just like anyone else (preferably with an iced americano in hand). I just went through The Purge earlier this year and got rid of so much stuff. I’m definitely not a minimalist by any means but I do want to make mindful purchases. I’m trying to retrain my brain that just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean we need it.
Soooo my friend Jenn has been an amazing inspiration this year. (You can follow her and her seriously gorgeous family on instagram. She has been purchase free for all of 2019. INCREDIBLE. I mean I think I might have purchased something today?? I want to take a small page out of her book and go all of May without buying anything. I mean food, obviously I’ve gotta feed my kids. Sunscreen, duh but like that sweatshirt at stellar that says “taco to me” probably not a NEED.
Here is my game plan. I’ve taken stock of all of my supplies. I will definitely need purple shampoo and conditioner during May. I still have about 1/4 of both bottles left. I only wash my hair about once a week so eventually I will need to get shampoo and conditioner. The Kristen Ess is my jam from Targ. I have all of the hair oil I will need for a good while, definitely through May. I just got a new tube of my fave mascara! (Loreal Lash Paradise, what!!!) And I bought a new moisturizer with sunscreen this weekend. Cosmetics wise, I’m good. I don’t need any new bras, and my eby order just came. I have fallen in love with my Pixie Cup, menstrual cup, and that’s a whole different post!!! I think I’m set. I found my long lost white jeans, thanks Mariah, and feel set on basics for the oncoming warmer weather. And same for my kids! but you know with kids they’ll always need something. I’m going to try to only be mindful purchasing for them as well.
I have recently taken on some new responsibilities at work that include picking/buying clothes for Stellar, aka women’s clothes, aka the things I want to wear. It’s been so amazing but also challenging because I want to buy all the things I pick! I need to focus on my goal. Plus it’s just a month. I can do a lot of things for a month.
Things that are included in the No-Buy-May: Clothes Shoes Makeup Perfume Accessories Jewelry Swimsuits Home Decor! Plants Pots for plants
So, is anybody interested in joining me for the No-Buy-May?? I’m excited to challenge myself and also to kind of rewire my brain into realizing I don’t need STUFF! Who’s with me?
I mean, I do live in Florida. Technically, it’s white jeans season 24/7/365. However most parts of the world white jeans are synonymous with spring & summer. (But seriously is there anything chicer than winter white?? I mean, no!) I have been on the quest for the best white jeans. I asked my instagram followers, peeps on facebook, and compiled a list of the best, comfiest, least see thru white jeans there are.
Also a list of ones that I tried on that suuuuuuucked.
Holy Grail White Denim: Madewell These are my personal faves. I love that their a higher waist. They come in different length inseams, which is super important for us long legged girls as well as my petite friends! They’re comfy, flattering and have a decent price point. These are literally the only white jeans I own that’s the only reason why they’re here at #1 on the list.
Express MANY, many people recommended express jeans! I’ve never tried them but I did notice that they offer 2% cash back at ebates currently and they’re currently buy one, get one for $29.80 which makes them a really good deal! I also appreciate that they too have a few inseam options, AND plus sizes. They also have the same pair of jeans on THREE different models, which is reallllllly cool!
Next up on the white denim roundup is Old Navy A lot of my friends with children recommended these Old Navy Rockstar jeans! Why spend lots of money when you have kids that’ll just put their dirty nutella covered hands all over you. (Just my kids orrrrr?) They’re a really great price point, but not a lot of selection size wise online. Maybe in store they have more choices for sizes but they hardly ever have different inseam lengths in store.
American Eagle Outfitters is coming in hot next on the list. I don’t know why I forgot about AEO. They were my go to back in KC and then it’s like as soon as I moved here I forgot about them! Great price point, stores everywhere, they usually have good sales.
And the ones I tried that I do not under any circumstances recommend: Target Universal Thread! They were see thru, and just all around unflattering. Even when I sized up! You know I love the targ but these were a miss!
If you have a pair of white jeans that you love that I didn’t mention, comment! If you get a pair of the ones I recommend let me know! Happy white jean season!
I started this blog as a way to figure out my journey with BRCA1+ mutation. I didn’t know much about my reconstruction options. I knew that I would be having a surgery to remove my breast tissue, that I KNEW. Beyond that it was so confusing, and overwhelming. Now that I’m on the ‘flap side’ (a little DIEP flap humor for ya) I feel like I know so much more about the different reconstruction options. Not because I’ve experienced them, but because of this incredible community I’ve learned. I don’t know what 30somethingmumbles.com will turn into. I definitely know that I won’t stop talking. I mean, in my 35 years of life I don’t think I’ve ever stopped talking. I know that I want to be an advocate for mutants, survivors, previvors, and thrivers. I know that I want to share my home improvements. I know that I want to share the amazing things my kids do, like spell butterflies like buttferlies.
I want to continue sharing budget fashion finds, a list of the best white jeans. I want to continue sharing my life as authentically as possible. If I make up a kickass dinner recipe, I kinda want to share that too! I guess what I don’t know is what you guys want. What do you want to hear from me. Or see from me? Or NOT see from me. I want to know that too! Feel free to leave a comment on the blog or email me firstname.lastname@example.org
