What’s to come

I received some scary looking envelopes today. The paper is pink which I think is maybe coincidental? Maybe not. Breast cancer awareness and all.

The small envelope seemed a little less intimidating so I opened it first. Inside, the 8th of February is outlined.

10:30a I’ll have a mammogram

11:30a I’ll meet with the CRNP breast specialist.

2:00p I have a breast MRI

So neat and tidy is my day. The MRI freaks me out but my friend’s 8 year old just had an MRI of his hip and was ok; so if he can do it so can I. Thanks Owen for the inspiration!

In the second envelope, the big scary yellow one, there are a bunch of sheets of paper. A welcome letter which talks about what to expect. There’s also a welcome packet to the Lynne Cohen Preventative Care Program for Women’s Cancers at UAB.

Then there is an 8 page packet for family history, my own medical history, record release form. There are a few pages with directions and restaurants, stores, hotels and banks near UAB.

I know this will all be worth it. The paperwork makes it just a little more concrete. I’m so overwhelmed with the outpouring of support I’ve received since sharing my test results. I am not the type of person to really ask for help and I am so grateful to everyone that has offered. I promise to take you up on it in the days, weeks, and months to come.
